What this visa lets you do

  • Bridging visa A (010): stay lawfully in Australia until your substantive visa application is finally decided, or until your merits or judicial review is decided

Key requirements

  • Be in Australia
  • Have made a valid application for a substantive visa (for a BVA, usually while holding a substantive visa)

Things to know

  • A Bridging visa A ends immediately if you leave Australia while it is in effect.
  • It also ends if your application is refused and any review is finished, or if you withdraw your application.
  • Other bridging visas — B, C and E — apply in different situations. Your situation decides which one you get, and what conditions apply.
Timing is criticalApplying for your next visa before your current visa expires usually keeps you lawful. Get advice before your visa ends — not after.
