Child visa

A permanent visa for a dependent child of an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen.

What this visa lets you do

Work and study in Australia
Enrol in Medicare
Travel to and from Australia for 5 years
Attend free English classes through the Adult Migrant English Program, if eligible
Apply for Australian citizenship, if eligible

Be outside Australia when the application is submitted
Be dependent on a parent who is an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen
Be the parent's biological child, adopted child or stepchild (stepchild only from a former partner)
Be under 18, or 18 to under 25 and studying full time, or over 18 with a disability
Be sponsored by the eligible parent or their spouse or de facto partner
